My Story

At five years old I knew my purpose in life was to become a pediatrician! With my Fisher Price medical bag in hand, I made it my mission to heal the kids in my neighborhood. Growing up, my mother instilled her value for education as a top priority. Even though I had symptoms of untreated ADHD I was able to navigate the educational system and fulfill my lifelong dream. This did not come without its challenges. During medical school my ADHD “caught up” with me. I began to find it difficult to study, focus and retain information. I had to learn new ways to study and take exams. After residency, I worked in Cherokee, NC as the sole full-time pediatrician on the boundary. This is where I saw a need for providing holistic care to children with ADHD. I drew on my experiences and created an ADHD clinic that didn’t just give meds but also taught skills in executive functioning. In 2012 I made the big move from the east coast to California, and I continued my education by obtaining my Master of Public Health degree and additional training in trauma-informed care and ADHD. This additional education inspired me to be a fierce advocate to my patients. I believe ADHD does not have to be a disability but can be a Superpower!  It is because of this that I founded Doctor 4 the People, to give every child and young adult the tools they need to successfully launch into adulthood.

Dr. Shandi attended medical school at Howard University in Washington DC. She did her residency at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, FL. After moving from the east coast to California she continued her education by obtaining her Master of Public Health degree at UC Berkeley. She has gotten additional training in trauma-informed care and ADHD. She has successfully run ADHD clinics for almost 15 years. She is also a member of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder). In her "free time," she enjoys gardening, dancing, music, and creating art. She is happy to call California her home.
